A Solemn Evening
Evenings on the mountains are just beautiful. They are magical as they have the power to heal you.
Ayaan was a man full of ambition and was an achiever, but he still didn’t feel content in his heart. He decided to go to the mountains for a weekend.
As he stood on the balcony of a wooden cottage perched on the top of an hill, he could see the valley in the distance where tiny villages were lit up like lamps in the wilderness. Ayaan wondered of the simple life these mountain people must have. He then thought about the city, where thousands of people lived with millions of dreams, always chasing, as river of time flows.
Today he was away from that race. He just wanted to be alone. He wanted to just stand and do nothing.
He lit up his cigarette and tried to escape his mental reality.
He gazed the sky. The sun had set a few moments ago. Dusk was slowly making its way to engulf the sky.
Ayaan was mesmerised. What he saw was soothing. It was as if he could see the orchestra of nature happening. The mountains wore a sheet of red and orange sky as a blanket. As if they too were tired of their daily vigil and wanted to retreat and go to sleep. The darkness was eager to sprawl but had to wait for the light to depart. The darkness too was mesmerised of the spectacle.
Ayaan stood still. As the sun set, he too sunk into his soul. An orchestra of emotions was going in his heart as well. It was as if there was an evening happening inside. The sadness was at bay, waiting for its chance to catch his mind in the darkness of night. But for now the sadness had to wait, for the light within him was making its presence felt. A blanket of warm and positive emotions had covered up his deep rooted fears. It was comforting. He could feel the universe within him lit up. Just like the dusky sky outside. He could see the darkness within him, but could also feel the power of light. He could feel the potential he had. He could feel he was infinite and was bound to be successful. This darkness, not matter how strong, shall fade away. Just like the sun rises every morning even after the darkest of night.
He felt calm. For the first time since months he was feeling content. He was at peace. He looked at his cigarette, it was about to get over. He took a last drag, with a crackling sound of tobacco, as the ambers lit up for one last time, before turning into ash. The puff of smoke slowly disappeared into the dark.
The evening had taught him a lesson. The evening had shown him what wonders can a few rays of setting sun do to the entire canvas of nature. The evening had shown him HOPE. The evening had healed him.
Ayaan said to himself- what a Solemn evening…
