The core message of the Bhagavad Gita is considered very powerful for it can fundamentally transform the way you live your life. Bhagavad Gita is also called a summary of Vendantic Knowledge or simply ancient Knowledge.
Bhagavad Gita is crystallized form of the Hindu thought.
Bhagavad Gita is 700 verses long, spread across 18 chapters. Here we will understand Verses 2 and 3 of Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita.
Translation
Krishna spoke to Arjun:
Hey Arjun, In this difficult situation, from where did this rotten thought come to you ?? Indulging in such thoughts won’t send you to heaven, rather with bring about a bad reputation to your name.
Don’t act like a coward. This doesn’t suit you. Let go of the petty feeling of weakness present in your heart and stand up, O slayer of enemies.
Commentary
Krishna here is nudging Arjun to stand up and fight. However, his tone here is not like a mentor but rather like a friend who is warning Arjun that such an act will bring a bad reputation for his name. In the same breath, Krishna is trying to ridicule Arjun’s decision by calling him a coward.
Krishna wants his words to hurt Arjun’s ego so that he can come back to his senses.
Perhaps Krishna at this point doesn’t understand the seriousness of Arjun’s resolve.
