Bhagavad Gita for Modern World: Chapter 1 Verses 25 & 26
Verses 1.25 and 1.26 explained
Translation
Bhisma, Drona, and in front of all the kings, Krishna said to Arjun “ See all these Kuru Vansha people who have gathered here”
Arjun saw the men stationed in both armies. He saw his uncles, grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, cousins, fathers-in-law, sons, nephews, grandsons, friends, and well-wishers.
Commentary:
Both Pandavas and Kuravas belonged to the same family i.e. Kuru Vansha.
So when a war break in within a family, each family member has no option but to take sides, and the same is the case with close and distant relatives. Even the well-wishers of the family eventually ended up taking sides.
And Kuru Vansh was no ordinary family. It was the royal household, so the people even remotely related to it had vested economic interests, thus for them, neutrality wasn’t an option. Also, a win or defeat would dictate the future of their own families and was literally a matter of life and death. Thus people took their bets on either Pandavas or Kauravas, depending upon what suited them the best.
So when Arjuna went to the middle of the two armies assembled on each side, saw nothing but all his relatives, friends, and well-wishers present on the battlefield. This was bound to happen, yet the sight itself was an eye-opening view.
