How strong was Pandava Army in Mahabharat?
Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 1 Verse 3 Explained
Translation:
Duryodhan said: O Acharya! Look at the large army of the Pandavas which has been arranged by your intelligent pupil/student (Dhrishtadyumna).
Commentary:
Dhrishtadyumna was the son of Drupada- the father of Draupadi and by that fact the father-in-law of the Pandavas. Dhrishtadyumna was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Pandava army.
Drupada and Drona had a long history of animosity. Drupada wanted to kill Drona and had wished for a son who could do that. Despite knowing about Dhrishtadyumna Drona agreed to teach him and developed him into a mighty warrior.
Dhrishtadyumna eventually kills Drona on the 15th day of the battle of Kurukshetra.
In this verse, Duryodhana is teasing Drona by telling him that he is impressed by Dhrishtadyumna in the manner he has arranged the Pandava army. The attempt clearly is to pinch Drona and make him angry. This also shows the evil side of Duryodhan.
