Are you clear of your purpose?

Ayaan was a successful man by all standards; he had a great job, which paid well, wonderful wife, a supporting family, a great group of friends, and lot holidays and foreign trips. However Ayaan struggled with his health. He was obese and had poor fitness. Ayaan wasn’t ignorant, he was fully aware that he needed to some do something. He tried working out, joined gym, worked hard 5 days a week, but the weight wasn’t going down. Ayaan loved his food. He was one of those who would say “The purpose of life is to enjoy good food”. This love became his weakness, where he wouldn’t be able to control himself when he saw tasty food.

Ayaan would say “The purpose of life is to enjoy good food”

Few months passed, Ayaan grew frustrated over time- he no more liked to workout. He would now skip most days and would go to workout 1–2 days a week, that to a half hearted attempt. But what else could he do, he had to tick the box in his calendar. There came a time, when Ayaan was mentally burned out of this battle to reduce weight. He chose not to renew his annual Gym subscription, and decided he will try something else instead.

That ‘something else’ never happened.

It was like Ayaan has broken free from the rules he has made for himself. He would now not think before ordering Biryani, eating pizza, enjoying his pasta laden with cheese. His dine outs became more frequent. Every weekend was fun with friends drinking beer and enjoying food in famous eateries. Every thing was great indeed, except on thing- Ayaan’s health.

One night, while drinking beer, Ayaan suffered a cardiac arrest. He fainted and his body hit the ground. He lost all his senses and his eyes went black. His friends rushed him to the hospital.

Ayaan woke up. A doctor was standing on his side. The doctor told him that he had an heart attack and had to undergo angioplasty, to open his nerves by removing the fat blocking his blood vessels. Doctors told Ayaan, that he must reduce his weight at all costs, now that his life is at risk.

It was 4pm in the evening, Ayaan noticed the watch. Doctor moved out of the room, as Ayaan looked at his child, Ansh who was 4 years old, standing next to his bed. He could light reflecting in his child’s eyes. It seemed like a glimmer of hope; in this glimmer he saw his son’s future. He saw Ansh growing up to be a tall man, attending college, falling in love, getting married, having his first child- it was as if a movie was streaming in front of him. Ayaan felt that he had spent years, seeing his son grow in front of him, living a great life.

But suddenly Ayaan realised, that he, himself, wasn’t there in any of the scenes. He was shocked. A dark truth had touched him. He felt paralysed, he tried his best but couldn’t move an inch. Suddenly it went dark. A window appeared in from of him. It was inviting Ayaan to come and take a peak. Ayaan’s paralysis went away. He almost glided like a spirit towards the open window. It was a big window, you could see the entire street in front of you. Ayaan could see his own home was on the other side. He saw there was a crowd gathered next to his house. People were mourning. Ayaan watched for a long time. A tear trickled down his cheek from his right eye. It was his own funeral.

A tear trickled down his cheek from his right eye. It was his own funeral.

He had come to realise that he wasn’t there in any of his child’s memories, as he was dead. Ayaan stood still. He has never felt so sad in his life. It hurt so much that even tears won’t do any justice. Suddenly a bright light shined infront of him. He was like 1000s of LED lights at a once.

Ayaan open his eyes. A doctor was peaking on his face with a led light tied to his head. “How are you feeling?”, the doctor asked.

“Where am I?” — asked a surprised Ayaan.

He glared at the watch- it was 4.05pm.

“You are in the hospital. You had an heart attack last night. You must thank your friends who brought you here on time. A slight delay, and would have been dead”- said the doctor.

“But wasn’t the surgery done already? I had a doctor come to me and say that I was already operated upon? Where is my son?”- Ayaan had so many questions.

Ayaan and the doctor stared each other. In that moment Ayaan realised something. What he saw wasn’t real. It didn’t happen. His son was never there. Infact he didn’t recall when he sat and spoke to his son the last time; he was always busy working or having fun. As the reality started hammering his head, Ayaan grew more sure.

Ayaan had a vision.

This changed Ayaan. He was discharged in two days and came back home. A period of 2 days felt like 20 years had passed by. This vision which has lasted for a few seconds had change Ayaan’s life forever.

Ayaan vowed that we will get fit. He now had a reason to do so. He knew that he couldn’t live his life without his family. He wanted to be in those moments;

Afterall you are nothing but a collection of thoughts and memories.

He renewed his Gym subscription, started working out with all his might. In a years time Ayaan’s lost almost all his fat, and grew a physique that would rival Greek gods. He become an inspirations for many. A man who won over his mind and transformed himself- it was indeed inspiring.

Someone asked him someday,

“What is the secret behind your Motivation?”

Ayaan smiled and said-

“Clarity!”
